Fantastic 3* hotels, 82kms of piste. Alt 1282-3028m.
Simply a glorious resort! A mixture of alpine history and tradition combined with its highly modern ski lifts and scenic beauty. This is a resort to visit over and over again. Originally popular with the rich and famous, especially the British in the early 20th century. Some of the hotels we use still boast the high ceilings and chandelier grandeur.
The lift system is superb with gondolas whisking you to the first level where you will find the beginners area, secluded from the main pistes where new skiers can learn in peace. Up above the cable cars take you all the way to the glacier at over 3000m the last cable car to Titlis actually rotating so that you don't miss any of the views. The small pedestrianised, safe, town of Engelberg is situated at the end of the train line and surrounded by alps on three sides.
Progressions for the beginners include the 6km blue run from the second station down to the village. For the more experienced children there are plenty of red runs over at Jochpass and higher up on the glacier itself. Our modern ski shop is situated within 100m of the main lift system and it is possible to leave skis and boots there overnight. In the evenings one of the hotels allows the children to use their swimming pool and there is ice skating at the town's sports centre. Also here the staff can organise an evening of games from the modern indoor sports to the more traditional Swiss past times. Very interesting! Finally, if there is a home game whilst you are there you can watch Engelberg in the 2nd division of the Swiss Ice Hockey League. For more information go to www.engelberg.ch
